About this work
Two or three rounded, hunched forms with pale grey and white backs sit low in the composition, their shapes suggesting crouching or resting animals seen from behind. Above them a horizontal yellow band cuts across the near-black ground, while a dense web of thin red and orange lines threads through the darkness like scattered vines or roots.
The palette is almost entirely black, grey and white for the animal shapes, pierced by acid yellow at the top and a tangle of red, orange and touches of blue elsewhere. Heavy dry-brush strokes model the animal backs while the linear scribbles are applied wet and loose, giving the whole surface a tense, murky, unsettled mood.
